Custom Made Specialty Cakes

The cakes that you will see on the two slide shows below are special order cakes. The sheet cake designs were drawn onto the sheet cake with toothpicks and then filled in with colored icing from decorator bags or a brush. The cartoon character designs were drawn from a party invitation. Others are simply from my creative imagination.

If you're planning a special event or theme party, contact me for ideas on a sheet cake. They may be double layered or side-by-side to make a super cake! Single layer sheet cakes are Medium: 9" X 13" (serves 20-25), Large: 11" X 15" (serves 30-35), and X-Large: 13" X 18" (serves 45-50). Cake squares in 10", 12", and 14" are also available!
A deposit is required in advance for any personalized cakes.

If you use a dial-up internet connection, please be very patient as it takes a few minutes for the slide shows to fully load and start. Below the slide shows are a few of the more recent cakes that have come from my kitchen.
Enjoy!

More Specialty Cakes...

This Tar Heel cake followed a special cake request by an appreciative husband. The couple's anniverary was also the wife's birthday! He knew she loved yellow roses, coconut, and both are UNC graduates and even specified the text to go on the cake! This layered cake had coconut & buttercream filling with coconut on the sides.
I heard it was deeeeeelicious!
Thanks Henry & Beth!

Basketball was the theme for this birthday cake. My client wanted a 3-D basketball. Since the round pans were kinda small, I added an 8" tier underneath and designed a "net" to catch the basketball.

This recent birthday sheet cake was requested was for my Steeler fan, great-nephew's 6th birthday. How appropriate for the weekend since the Steelers were in the 2009 Super Bowl... and WON!!!

Another birthday sheetcake painted with icing from a birthday invitation... This one was for my great-nephew's 2nd birthday celebration. His mom used the barnyard theme and the kids even enjoyed real pony rides at the party.

A very dear friend of mine from Holden Beach, NC called me about making a special cake for his mother's birthday. He said pink & green as her favorite colors, and... he wanted a particular scripture (Proverbs 31:28) written on it.
Happy Birthday Ms Betty!

The 3rd grade class at Greengrove School celebrated Dr Seuss's birthday with a special reading of some of the old time favorites of Dr. Seuss was presented by Mr. Alfonzo McRae. All children (and the teacher) wore stovepipe hats of red & white. It was only fitting for the children and guests to have special refreshments following the reading and sing Happy Birthday to Dr Seuss.
Mrs. Belva McDowell (3rd grade teacher) ordered her class this special 5-layer Dr Seuss cake.

Dora, the explorer, is a popular choice for little girl parties. This sheetcake was drawn on with a toothpick (from the invitation shown in the top right corner) and painted on with icing.

The special Butterfly cake below was cut out of a 11x15 sheetcake for a very special lady and soon-to-be-bride in April 2009.

Below is my first "choo choo train" cake. When I got a call from Oregan about making a birthday cake, I was totally flattered. (Although, I don't deliver quite that far!) This loving parent said she found my site on the internet when she googled "NC cakes" and it led her to this website. I was about to decline the cake assignment due to the fact that I do not mail cakes, and Oregan was quite a distance to travel. Thankfully, the mother assured me the family would be visiting locally for the holidays.
The request was a train cake for a 3-year old.
Voila!

The cake design was drawn and then cut out on paper; the pieces were then placed onto a 11x15 sheet cake; each train car was cut out with a knife; then each individual train piece was iced and decorated. The finished cake measured 32 inches long with only a tiny bit of cake scrap left over.
Upon delivery, the child's eyes lit up real wide in amazement and he wanted to get his hands into it immediately! Needless to say, it was everything they'd hoped for... and delicious too!
