Many brides ask me about colors for/on their wedding cake. In order to match your wedding colors, I will need a sample. This can be a swatch of fabric, piece of ribbon, a colored napkin, or even an invitation. Davids BridalTM sells fabric swatches in the same color of your bridesmaids dresses for $1.00 per swatch. I wouldn't even need the whole thing, just a strip of it. Save that buck! You might need the rest of it to match dye for the shoes.
Matching icing colors can be difficult at times. Fortunately, virtually any color can be duplicated in icing, but there are a couple of things you need to consider before putting that color on your cake! Dark colors can add a beautiful contrast to your wedding cake but they can also sometimes cause disaster. Dark colors can stain your guests' teeth. They can also bleed into lighter colored icing underneath it. If you insist on having a dark color on your cake, it might be wise to use it as an accent color and not the main color. Darker colors can be used to "doodle" with - sometimes called scroll work or filigree.
It's your day! It's your cake! Have it your way!
And have a blessed day.
